Some general Gynecological issues

Pelvic pain: The problem often appears as a dull throbbing pain around the lower abdomen or pelvic area. You may also notice tenderness around your thigh muscles or stomach. The pain is distinct from normal period cramps. Pelvic pain should not be ignored. It can be a symptom of a number of different infections in the reproductive tract, for example pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ovarian cysts or even appendicitis. Such conditions can lead to severe damage to the fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus, creating complications such as infertility.

Discomfort while urinating: Burning sensation or discomfort while urinating may be another symptom that one needs to be aware of. It may indicate an infection such as a sexually transmitted disease (STD) like gonorrhea or syphilis or a bacterial infection of the urinary tract.

Loss of control of the urinary bladder: There may be instances of loss of control of the urinary bladder which is commonly referred to as incontinence, in which a person is unable to control urination. Leakage of urine may occur when one coughs or laughs or lifts something heavy. This is called ‘stress incontinence’. It is an unintentional loss of urine.

Some ways to prevent Obstetrics and Gynecology problems

Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol crosses the placenta and directly affects your unborn child. Alcohol can cause problems such as miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth, small babies due to slow growth in pregnancy, and may affect the developing fetal brain. The risk to the baby appears to be highest in the earlier stages of pregnancy. However, it is recommended to avoid alcohol during any stage of your pregnancy. Doing so benefits both the mother and the baby’s health.

Get plenty of Sleep

Sleep is a very important aspect of a healthy of your pregnancy. The proper sleep improves your metabolism and your psychological well-being.

Wear Comfy Shoes

Hormones such as relaxing loosen ligaments, which could increase your risk of joint injuries. By wearing comfortable and supportive shoes, you are avoiding the risk of sprains, as well as helping your overall posture and comfort levels.

Eat a healthy diet to maintain a healthy body weight

Your menstrual cycle is highly dependent on your weight; women who are too thin or too heavy may start to experience problems such as losing their periods or having excessive or irregular flow. Eating a healthy, high-fiber diet and drinking lots of water can also help avoid constipation, which, in turn, can reduce period pain.

Exercise regularly

Exercising can boost your overall health, which includes your reproductive system. Maintaining a balanced weight can help with missed periods and heavy periods alike, and gentle exercises such as yoga can help to reduce any pelvic pain you might be experiencing.

When should you see a doctor?

The best way to treat health and medical issues is with preventive care. Women who are healthy and aren’t experiencing any reproductive health issues should get a preventive checkup once per year. During visit, doctor conduct evaluations, immunizations, or lab tests for certain diseases and will perform a pelvic exam. People should see their Obstetrician/Gynecologist if they think they could be pregnant or for any genital system issues, including:

  • Suspected miscarriage
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Pain or symptoms during urination
